Specification
- The corner-less post system offers unobstructed 360-degree visibility, ensuring that students can see classroom demonstrations clearly from any angle
- 6mm clear acrylic panels offer 360-degree unobstructed viewing. A full-width, three-stage rear baffle ensures stable face velocity and effective extraction. All joints are sealed, and the rounded interior allows easy cleaning and prevents dirt build-up.
- The sliding sash system features 6mm toughened glass and a fail-safe counterbalanced mechanism with stainless steel cables and ball race pulleys for safe, smooth operation. Guide channels keep movement stable. A quick-release lock at 400mm allows the sash to open up to 650mm for access; lowering it resets the lock. A full-width curved aerofoil is powder coated white (RAL 9016) with D handle.
- The rear air diffuser worktop has a deep spillage lip. Water, gas, and a drip cup are on the right side. Front service control valves are placed outside the chamber for safety, and service outlets sit above the spillage area for durability and corrosion resistance.

The Nexus R+ Smart system is an intelligent control solution for school labs, providing closed-loop control, gas monitoring, and alarms to ensure safe fume cupboard operation. It precisely regulates face velocity and monitors filter status in real time. If gas levels exceed safety thresholds, the system detects filter saturation or leakage and issues an alarm with a replacement reminder.
SMART CONTROL LOGIC
- Audio/visual alarms
- Choose automatic or manual mode using the LCD panel.
- In automatic mode, set face velocity at 0.4 m/s (sash fully open at 400mm) or 0.5 m/s (sash half open at 200mm).
- If measured face velocity exceeds the target, the controller slows the FAN; if below target, FAN speed increases.
- Adjust FAN power manually (0-100%) in manual mode via screen.
- For harmful gas alarms, activate purge; FAN runs at full power for 1 minute.
- Face velocity control logic adjusts automatically after switching modes.

ELECTRICS & LED LIGHT
- The lower service panel features an RCD-protected double socket. An LED light supplies over 800 lux to the worksurface, with light and fan controls accessible via the LCD touchscreen. The Fume Cupboard comes pre-wired with a 1m plug-in cable for easy connection on-site to the Docking Stations provided.
SAFETY GUARANTEE
- Maintain fume cupboard safety in school experiments by preventing gas leaks and filter failures.
- Control airflow face velocity: Keep at 0.4 m/s with the sash fully open (400mm) and reduce to 0.5 m/s when half open (200mm), minimizing disturbances to Bunsen flames as per CLEAPSS guidelines.
- Air-bypass: Lowering the sash from 400mm to 200mm allows air entry through a high-level secondary inlet, avoiding excessive velocities and disruptions to flames.
- Without these controls, some models reach 0.8 m/s airflow, which can disturb or extinguish Bunsen flames, posing significant hazards.
FAN DESIGN
- Electronically Commutated (EC) Fans use an internal controller to convert AC to DC, employing brushless permanent magnet motors for efficient electronic commutation. With over 90% motor efficiency and a power factor ≥0.95, EC fans save 30–70% more energy than conventional AC fans and maintain high performance at partial loads.
- They offer stepless speed control (0–100%) with ±3% accuracy and support various control methods, including integration with sensors and BMS systems for remote monitoring and automation.
- The brushless design delivers a lifespan of 50,000–80,000 hours (10–15 years) with minimal maintenance, compared to 30,000 hours (5–8 years) for AC fans, which require frequent servicing. Noise levels are also reduced to 35–50 dB — about 50% quieter than standard AC fans — due to optimised aerodynamics and variable-speed operation.
AIRFLOW
- Curved panels enable the Coanda effect to guide airflow along surfaces, minimising eddies and keeping fumes away from users. The sash handle, air slots, rear baffles, and worktop help efficiently clear both light and heavy fumes in the event of spillages.
FILTRATION
- Equipped with a CLEAPSS G9 tri-layered activated carbon filter, this unit effectively removes chemical fumes found in educational settings. It features a low-noise, brushless-fan and an electrostatic pre-filter.
TAMPER PROOF LOCKABLE CONNECTIONS
- The drip cup, water, gas, electric, and security tether cable all connect inside our unique integrated secure, lockable tamper proof enclosure.
- Instant connection on site to our strategically located matching FlexiFast Docking Stations.
- On the right of each fume cupboard, connections are made to the Lab, with 1m optimised flexible hose sets for water, gas, waste, electric, and security cables, preventing sagging waste
Construction Includes:
The unit features a robust Zintec steel exterior with a smooth white RAL 9016 powder coating. Its fully radiused Nexus R+ air intake and lower cill boost containment and operator safety, while the lower airfoil ensures efficient surface “scavenging” during spills for a cleaner environment.
All utilities are secured in a tamper-proof, lockable compartment and come with 1-meter flexibles for quick connection to water, gas, waste, electricity, and security tethers, minimising hose trailing and chemical residue risks.
Non-marking castors, including two locking front wheels, provide mobility and stability. The fume cupboard arrives assembled and ready for immediate use with the Universal FlexiFast Docking Stations strategically installed throughout the science laboratories.
